IndigeSTEAM began as the Power to Choose Program hosted by Alberta Women’s Science Network. In 2018, the Power to Choose coordinator, along with advisors from First Light Initiative and GAIA were working with FIRST Alberta Robotics on the goal of engaging more Indigenous youth in FIRST Robotics and the idea of combining three separate programs: youth, mentors and community.

This led to IndigeSTEAM developing into an independent society. We were incorporated in Alberta Sept 21, 2018. The original GAIA mentoring program became Pathways for Choice, the First Light initiative program became Partners in Community, and along with Power to Choose, the three pillars continue to grow and help shape IndigeSTEAM’s values and mission.

Power to Choose

Giving Indigenous Youth the Power of Choice in Careers and Life

We offer classes, workshops, events, and camps, and develop lesson plans grounded in Two-Eyed Seeing – hands-on, minds-on, Indigenous-led, and culturally relevant programming for Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth.

Pathways for Choice

Supporting Indigenous Mentors with Teaching and Healing

Pathways for Choice brings together Indigenous STEM mentors and role models who navigate the challenges of walking in two worlds. Join us to learn how Two‑Eyed Seeing can guide a better future for everyone.

Partners in Community

Supporting Indigenous and non-Indigenous Communities Coming Together to Learn
