OCAP is the acronym for “Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession” and it refers to First Nations dat and information.
As stated on the First Nations Information Governance Centre’s website, OCAPĀ® is a guiding principle which “…assert that First Nations have control over data collection processes, and that they own and control how this information can be used.”
More information is available on the link above. IndigeSTEAM has several staff and board members trained in OCAPĀ®, and in our research processes we will strive to meet if not exceed these principles.
