Chemistry of Paint Workshop
FOCUS: Indigenous Ways of Knowing / Colour / Chemistry / Plants / Art
What plants make what colour? Do different mixtures or additives change the colour? This workshop can be done as a stand-alone topic without Indigenous content. Indigenous content considers traditional pigments and dyes of several First Peoples.
Grades/unit: All ages and grades. Chemistry content is adjusted for age/grade.
School supplies needed: water, paper towels
Provided materials: tipi paper, pigments, solvents, additives, brushes, toothpicks, palettes, recycled or disposable water cups.
Outcome: an artwork on 11”x17” tipi paper. A tipi canvas form can be drawn from template on the paper prior to painting.
DURATION: 1 to 1.5 hour / class
COST: $200.00 presenter + presenter travel outside of Calgary
