Chemistry of Paint

Tipi Lecture and Chemistry of Paint

FOCUS: Indigenous Ways of Knowing / colour / chemistry / plants / art

The Ancestors didn't got to Michaels to buy paint, so how did they do it?  The first paints were also chemists, so let's explore making paint.  The Chemistry of Paint is not just part of the story of Indigesous peoples: it is the story of humans.  What plants make what colour? How do you get pigment to stick?  Do different mixtures change the colour? What does this have to do with the plants that make the pigments?  Traditions on how to make paint. No tipi poles or set up.

Duration: 2 HOUR SESSIONIN PERSON or ON LINE

COST $60 per participant including paints and solvents/binders and will result in a rectangular painting or, using a tipi template, a painted tipi skin suitable for framing. For in person workshops, we also supply palettes, brushes and cleanup.  For large on line sessions, or sessions at a distance, kits can be shipped to your location(s) + shipping and handling. Some painting supplies must be provided by the session host location.  One hour training prior to the workshop is required.  Pricing can be based on Lecture + Kits for locations where more than 1 person will work on 1 tipi.
